University isn’t the only path into law. If you’re ambitious, ready to learn and want to start building your career now, an apprenticeship could be the route that gets you there faster.
A Solicitor Apprenticeship at Walker Morris gives you the chance to build your legal career from the ground up while learning from people who genuinely want you to succeed. You’ll be part of our single site, collaborative community from day one, working on real client matters, developing practical skills and studying toward qualification with full support along the way. It’s a route that values curiosity, individuality and ambition — and gives you the space, guidance and high-quality experience you need to grow into the lawyer you want to become.
In my first few months at the firm, this has already been made clear and I feel as though I’m genuinely able to build a career that’s tailored to me.
Our six-year Solicitor Apprenticeship gives you the time, space and support to grow into the role of a lawyer – blending real work with structured learning and a clear pathway to qualification.
Years 1 & 2 – Building your foundations
In your first two years, you’ll work across three Business Services teams that sit at the heart of the firm’s legal work: Risk & Compliance, Knowledge, and Innovation. You’ll support colleagues across the business, get to know how a modern law firm operates and start developing core skills such as communication, organisation and time management.
Years 3 & 4 – Developing legal and commercial skills
You’ll then move into the Legal Services Delivery Centre, spending time in two different areas. This is where you’ll deepen your legal understanding, sharpen your attention to detail and build strong commercial and research skills.
Years 5 & 6 – Stepping up and shaping your future
In your final years, you’ll take on more responsibility and more complex work. You’ll join the trainee solicitor cohort and rotate through six seats, giving you broad exposure before deciding where you’d like to qualify. You’ll apply problems solving, stakeholder management and creative thinking daily, and complete SQE1 and SQE2 in year 6.
Alongside your on-the-job learning, you’ll study with BPP throughout the programme, building the academic knowledge you need to qualify through the SQE route. Find out more about BPP’s Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship here: Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship – BPP.
