SHL cognitive assessment

Shortlisted candidates will complete cognitive testing in August. Which covers the following:

  • Numerical reasoning – interpreting charts, graphs, and performing calculations
  • Deductive reasoning – drawing logical conclusions from given facts
  • Inductive reasoning – spotting patterns and making generalisations The tests are completed online and are designed to be fair, engaging, and reflective of real-world thinking.

Please note: Your test results are considered alongside your application by our Graduate Recruitment Partners. The score alone does not determine whether you progress to the next stage. We take a holistic view of your potential, considering both your performance in the assessment and the strength of your application. This is followed by another application review by the Graduate Recruitment Partners, and you will contacted by email about the outcome at this stage of the application process.

Assessment centre

Successful candidates will be invited to an assessment centre in September or October.

If your application is successful, you will be invited to attend a half‑day assessment centre at our offices. The assessment centre includes:

  • A group exercise
  • A short presentation
  • Speed interviews

These activities are designed to reflect the skills you would use as a trainee solicitor, such as problem‑solving, communication, teamwork and commercial awareness. You’ll be provided with the information you need on the day.

We’re not trying to catch you out – the assessment centre is an opportunity for us to get to know you and how you work, and for you to gain insight into life at Walker Morris.

We will be in touch by email about the outcome of the assessment centre. Unsuccessful candidates at this stage will be offered the opportunity for feedback.

Partner interview

If successful, you will either be offered a training contract or invited to a further interview, in our office, with our Graduate Recruitment Team, following which a training contract offer may be made.

We will be in touch by email about the outcome of the partner interview. Unsuccessful candidates at this stage will be offered the opportunity for feedback.
